The Industrial Metaverse Is Bringing In A New Phase Of Automation

As the race for digital transformation begins to gain traction, companies keep churning out innovations to put them above their peers. Siemens, the Germany-based tech firm and one of the top 10 companies in the world, is bracing up for the competition.

According to the company, Siemens has introduced an open industrial platform to accelerate, simplify, and scale the digital transformation process.

Siemens and more than 50 other verified third parties have contributed IoT (Internet of Things) compatible hardware, software, and digital services to the Xcelerator platform.

The German tech giant wants to make all of its hardware and software modular, cloud-connected, and based on standardized application programming interfaces (APIs).

Siemens Plans industrial Metaverse

A vital ingredient of the platform is the digital twin technology that can show what is happening on production lines in real-time with photorealistic quality and recreate industrial operations.

Amazon Web Services, Microsoft, and SAP are just a few of the “ecosystem” of partners who will support the new “industrial metaverse” platform. The solutions that Siemens and outside vendors provide will be pay-as-you-go, open, interoperable, and flexible.

Furthermore, Siemens intends to broaden its collaborations with businesses of all sizes and develop a market for complementary goods and services. The Xcelerator platform will connect mechanical, electrical, and software components across goods and production processes.

According to Roland Busch, CEO of Siemens, companies will find it easier than ever to handle digital transformation thanks to Siemens Xcelerator. He added that by integrating operational and information technologies, Siemens enables customers and partners to increase efficiency and competitiveness and scale their innovation system.

Busch continued by saying that Siemens aims to transition towards open apps, with more cloud-based and as-a-service solutions and IoT-enabled infrastructure that users can routinely modify.

Users will be given access to services like predictive maintenance. Due to the flexibility, users have to pay for only the service they need.

Siemens and Nvidia Linked Up

Nvidia, a leading expert in AI and graphics, is a significant collaborator in the project. The two companies intend to connect Siemens’ physics-based virtual models using Nvidia’s Omniverse 3D design and collaboration tool to create physically realistic, AI-enabled real-time simulations.

Moreover, the companies believe that AI-powered digital twin technology will advance industrial automation.

According to Nvidia, Omniverse is a simulated virtual-world software that makes it possible to create living digital twins with complete realism for the first time.

The partners think merging Omniverse and Xcelerator will hasten the adoption of digital twins for streamlining operations and enhancing productivity.

Jensen Huang, the CEO of Nvidia, calls the commercial metaverse “a major technological milestone.

The company has made a significant advancement in digital transformation. The era of animating factories is over. Simulating operations is now possible.

Meanwhile, aside from the automation, Siemens intends to adopt the new system in other aspects of its operation.

Siemens has begun the journey of building and scaling its operation as it looks for more acquisitions in the U.S. market.
