Last month, the Union Minister told telecommunication service providers to prepare for the 5G rollout. Telecom operators at the event include Vodafone Idea, Reliance Jio, and Bharti Airtel.

Meanwhile, the IMC is among the largest media, technology, and telecom forums in Asia. The organizers of the event include the cellular operators association of India (COAI) and the department of telecommunications (DoT).

On August 29th, Reliance Industries said it is ready to invest over ₹2 lakh crore for the 5G rollout in key cities. These cities include Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, and Delhi in the next two months. This will spread to other cities across India by 2023.

“In the next two month, we shall unveil out Jio 5G in major cities and metropolises such as Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai, and Kolkata. We want ro expand this service to every town and city in India before December 2023,” Dhirubhai Ambani, the founder of Reliance Industries, told investors on August 29th.

Vodafone Idea Yet To Unveil 5G Plans

Meanwhile, Bharti Airtel, a rival to Reliance Industries, also plans to launch 5G services in over 5,000 towns and cities by March 2024. At the beginning of September, Gopal Vittal, Bharti Airtel CEO, said the firm is targeting its 5G launch in metropolises before December.

After that, the company will expand its services till it covers the entire nation. Unfortunately, Vodafone Idea is yet to reveal any plan for its 5G services. However, the company bought a spectrum in the 5G spectrum, which took place last month.

Furthermore, Reliance Jio Infocomm, owned by Ambani, emerged as the largest buyer in India’s airwaves auction. The firm spent over ₹88,078 crore, which is twice the amount spent by Bharti Airtel, which came second.

After India’s 5G auction, Ashwini Vaishnaw, the minister of telecommunications, said the 5G spectrum could cover the entire nation. Vaishnaw expects 5G coverage in India to expand in the next three years.

Moreover, the minister stated that 5G rollouts would likely begin in October. Other countries, such as Nigeria, have already launched 5G services.
