Major telecom providers are already developing the hardware needed to launch their 5G services in India. They include telecom providers such as Airtel, Reliance Jio, and Vi (previously called Vodafone-idea).
Ashwini Vaishnaw, India’s telecom minister, said everyone would have access to 5G services by the end of 2022. Also, a recent story from The Hindu BusinessLine, said the prime minister of India, Narendra Modi, may formally introduce the 5G network on September 29th at the opening of the IMC (India Mobile Congress).
Although the 5G deployment is expected to begin sometime in October, the Indian authorities have not yet made an official announcement on the date. However, this expected date is consistent with the IMC event’s timeframe.
Therefore, it’s probable that the PM may formally declare the start of 5G services in September. Moreover, the government just finished the 5G spectrum sale where several telecom giants took part.
Currently, it is approving and allocating the spectrum to the winning telecom networks. Additionally, India’s 5G spectrum auction has a 1.5 Lakh Crore price tag.
Price Tag Of 5G Would Be Similar To 4G To Increase Adoption
Airtel, Reliance Jio, and Vi, three of the largest telecom companies, together with Adani Data Network, had participated in the bidding. Meanwhile, Bharti Airtel recently announced agreements with industry giants like Nokia, Samsung, and Ericsson.
Also, the telecom firm has already stated that it will begin rolling out the 5G network in India by the end of August. However, some rumors indicate that Reliance would also introduce its 5G connectivity on August 15th, India’s 75th Independence Day.
As for cost, India’s 5G should be competitive with those elsewhere globally. However, the country plans to make the price similar to 4G rates.
As a result, the 5G may likely have extremely low beginning prices. The aim is to encourage rapid uptake and adoption among the people.
Furthermore, it is worthy to note that this is the first phase of the exercise. The Indian government plans to launch 5G connectivity in 13 cities first.
