Huawei’s 5G Phone To Relaunch In 2023 Due To US Sanctions

Huawei, a Chinese multinational tech firm, wants to relaunch its 5G smartphones in 2023. This move is to help the company win back market share and overcome US sanctions.

US Sanctions Cripple Huawei’s Production

According to reports, Washington blacklisted Huawei from using American technology. Hence, the tech giant has been having problems developing 5G smartphones.

However, inside sources claim the firm is working out ways to bypass these sanctions. Huawei plans to achieve this by redesigning its phones without the restricted advanced chips.

Before the US sanctions, Huawei produced Kirin chipsets developed by HiSilicon. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company produced the chips.

Meanwhile, the firm plans to develop its 5G smartphones using less advanced chips produced by Chinese firms. Unfortunately, these chips may affect users’ experience compared to the latest iPhone 14.

Moreover, previous generations of Huawei’s smartphones used better chips and will be better than the upcoming smartphones. Currently, the tech firm is trudging to recover market shares it lost after US sanctions two years ago.

The political tension between Beijing and Washington affected the company’s revenue which fell by 50% in 2021.

An anonymous individual connected to Huawei said the firm wants to bring its 5G smartphones back into the market. Besides, the firm has lost its position in the smartphone market.

Further, Huawei is also considering launching a phone case that supports 5G. However, these phone cases already exist in the market.

China’s Tech Sector Driving At Self-sufficiency

Soyea Technology, a Shenzhen-listed firm, has developed a case with built-in eSIM. This eSIM has chips that support 5G connection. Soyea also introduced phone cases that enable 5G for the Huawei P50 Pro.

In September, Huawei launched the Mate 50 series. After the release, China Telecom started selling cases that enable 5G and the phone.

In addition, it is of great importance that Huawei overcomes US sanctions. This will allow it to regain its stance as the biggest smartphone producer in the world.

Will Wong, a research analyst at IDC, stated that China’s tech sector is driving at self-sufficiency. If the plan is successful, this will help Huawei to rejoin the 5G race.

In July, Richard Yu, an executive at Huawei, said the sanctions frustrated the firm’s plan to overtake Apple. He said Huawei is the only phone producer selling 4G smartphones.

Meanwhile, Chinese users have lashed out at Huawei for its overpriced smartphones. They argued that these smartphones do not even have 5G functions.

Michael Li, an owner of a repair shop in Shenzhen, said many users had met him to help them modify their Huawei Mate 50. The modification is to ensure the device supports 5G connectivity. Li stated that such modification is beyond his capability.
