Hisense To Use Synaptics’ DBM10L In AI-based Voice Remote Control

Synaptics has stated that Hisense, a giant in home appliances and consumer electronics, has chosen its DBM10L, which has a special NPU (neural processing unit). Hisense wants to use this to build the first ever AI-based AOV (always-on voice) RCU (remote control unit), tagged the EFR3B86H.

Hisense To Provide Efficient Voice Control Service For TV Users 

Hisense paired Synaptics’ DBM10L with the 65A9H 4K OLED television. This product will utilize the high performance and low power capabilities of Synaptics processors to ensure that users have the ultimate AOV experience.

Venkat Kodavati, Synaptics’ Chief Product Officer, applauded Hisense for its progress. Kodavati said Hisense is proactive in offering novel and accessible capabilities.

Meanwhile, end users are becoming dependent on voice assistant robots such as Siri and Alexa. Hence, the CPO said the company is thrilled to partner with Hisense to offer that similar sensation to television remote controls.

“Due to our work on a high-performance AOV solution, remotes can now serve as more integrated and vital user-engagement tools for the smart home,” Kodavati added.

According to Shay Kamin Braun, the Director of Product Marketing at Synaptics, the desire for a dependable and fast AOV interface for remote controllers is increasing. However, it isn’t easy to implement in battery-powered devices. 

Braun added that this is especially true in noisy situations. This is because greater noise means more energy usage to minimize performance deterioration. 

Synaptics’ DBM10L To Solve Power Demand Issue

According to Braun, the DBM10L provides an exceptional AOV user interface. It combines excellent functionality with ultra-low power usage.

In turn, this allows devices to run for long durations on a pair of AAA batteries. AOV controllers for televisions and other consumer products can now deliver high quality for consumers.

Meanwhile, Synaptics designed an ultra-low-power speech processor around their DBM10L. This processor integrates the specialized NPU and a low-power DSP to overcome the power demand problem.

Simultaneously, the device will also provide the greatest quality for AOV apps. Therefore, the system has the DBM10L, tested algorithms for filtration, noise cancellation, beamforming, wake word recognition, and speech activity detection. 

As a result, DNN (Deep neural network) based wake-word detection and other AI algorithms may now operate on the DBM10L’s NPU. These algorithms will achieve great efficiency at low latency and ultra-low power.
