Dubai’s Water Agency Uses AI To Enhance Water Network Efficiency

The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has created several innovations employing artificial intelligence (AI) to increase the effectiveness of water infrastructure in Dubai. It also uses AI tech to monitor breaches, leaks, and malfunctions and quickly isolate and rectify them.

Also, based on sensor data, these creative solutions can foresee pump and smart meter failures. This improves Dubai’s competitiveness and backs DEWA’s efforts to cut greenhouse gas emissions.

Additionally, it keeps DEWA in the lead, where it outperforms big European and American utilities. In 2021, water supply losses dropped from 15% in North America down to 5.3%, which is one of the lowest rates ever recorded.

DEWA Working On Complete Usage Of Automated Systems

DEWA’s MD & Executive officer, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, stated that the company is working to redefine the idea of a utility via Digital DEWA, its virtual arm. This is to make the company the first digital service globally with automated systems for green energy and storage while also enhancing the usage of AI and virtual services.

“The company wants to accomplish the UAE’s Water Security Strategy 2036 goals. We can achieve this by utilizing our cutting-edge smart grid, the newest technologies from the Fourth Industrial Revolution, “Al Tayer stated.

Also, Al Tayer said the firm would use sound governance procedures to increase efficiency and create distinctive experiences. These accomplishments would establish Dubai as a world leader in clean energy, green economy, and water.

Meanwhile, DEWA has released several innovations. One of them is the ‘iService’. This uses meter diagnostics information to detect service disruptions and launch rectification processes.

Dubai’s High-Water Usage Alert For Consumers

Another one is the ‘Metre Hacking and Fraud identification tool which is based on smart meter notifications. They also have the Hydronet project, which the company produced to use Deep Learning and AI to control and monitor the country’s water network remotely.

However, the latest project offers real-time information about the present condition of the network. Also, it can be linked with any SCADA system.

Additionally, leaks could be fixed quickly and automatically using it. As a result, Dubai’s water network and pipeline separation are more effective, resulting in time and effort savings. At Ideas America 2020, the initiative received the Silver Team Idea of the Year award.

Furthermore, DEWA also offers the High-Water Usage Alert as part of the Smart Response project. This is for consumers to find leaks in water supplies. In the event of an unexpected increase in water use, it texts the consumer notification.
