The use of inferior materials by huge industrial facilities has come under scrutiny recently. This is due to the multiple cases of electric vehicles (EVs) bursting into flames. 

Meanwhile, large industrial firms are focusing on using Artificial Intelligence (AI) tech to combat the issue. The AI tech would have materials and alert systems that will minimize the heat generated by EVs and thus avoid accidents.

However, an employee at iVOOMi told The Sunday Guardian about AI’s potential usage in EVs. He stated that:

“We are creating AI to inform drivers when their batteries overheat. Hence, the focus is also on improving the communication network as well. If there is a problem with the EV’s system, the AI system will notify the motorist.”

Numerous EV production facilities have stated that bad cell quality has severe consequences. Most lithium-ion cells are produced in China since India has insufficient manufacturing facilities, and these cells may be of subpar quality, which might pose risks.

Also, most EV users cannot maintain the cell quality of the batteries, which results in accidents. The worker at another manufacturing facility told The Sunday Guardian that most businesses utilize “used cells” since “new cells” are costly.

Furthermore, the cost of the cells is reduced by about 30% to 40% when these companies use old cells. However, there is a need for more homegrown technology. 

This is because of the need to cut back the reliance on importation. The expert added that the manufacturing firms must keep the correct gear and battery storage.

India To Start Local Production Of Lithium-ion Cells For Batteries 

The Battery Management System (BMS) is usually customized depending on driving habits, road conditions, weather, and other factors. Meanwhile, the BMS uses a cooling system for these imported cell batteries.

According to the iVOOMi worker, the company is working on releasing a better AI-powered cooling system for these EVs. This would help to reduce the amount of heat generated in them.

Additionally, it would introduce fins on the exterior surfaces of the EV. These fins will increase the vehicle’s convection rate and help heat transfer and cooling.

The business is also focusing on the strength and endurance of wire insulation, the iVOOMi worker told the newspaper. Meanwhile, The Bureau of Indian Standards has awarded certification to Godi India. 

Godi India is a manufacturing company with its headquarters in Hyderabad. It produces lithium-ion cells.

Fortunately, establishing a factory for lithium-ion cells will mark the beginning of indigenous cell production in India. By 2024, the company believes the factory’s construction will be complete.
